Full Dentures
A full denture is a removable artificial replacement for all of your natural teeth in either the upper or lower jaw, or both. Dentures are made of acrylic (plastic) and are custom fit to your mouth and gums, designed to look just like your real teeth.
A full denture is recommended when all of your natural teeth in either your upper or lower jaw (or both) need replacing.
All of our dentures are hand made on site by Gareth who has over 16 years industry experience and is a self confessed perfectionist.
It is our goal that you be happy and confident in your new teeth, so included in the cost and process of making your dentures, is a follow up appointment a week after your final fitting, to ensure that you are happy with the fit and comfort. At this appointment we can make minor adjustments if necessary. Also included the cost of your new dentures is as many free minor adjustments as required. We’re here whenever you need us – however our goal is to get the fit just right so that you shouldn’t need many post-fitting adjustments.
Already have Dentures?
It is recommended that your dentures be replaced every 8-10 years.
If you already have dentures and have been thinking about getting a new set, then come in an see Gareth for a free consultation. If all your natural teeth are already missing, you can just come direct to our clinic. The only reason you would need to visit your dentist first is if you still have some existing natural teeth in your mouth. If this is the case, please read the information on our Partial Dentures page.
Dentures for the First Time
If you’re new to the world of dentures and still have some or all of your natural teeth remaining, you will need to see your dentists to have those remaining teeth extracted. We can work in with your local dentist and make some immediate dentures for you.
If your teeth are already missing however, you can come directly to us to have your new denture made.
It is important to note that first time full dentures can take a bit of getting used to. In the first couple of weeks you may feel some discomfort, but as each day passes you’ll get more used to this new and different sensation in your mouth. Within time you’ll forget all about them.
Immediate Dentures
Most people don’t want to be seen without teeth, after having their remaining natural teeth extracted. In this instance you can have an immediate denture fitted whilst you wait for your gums to heal after the extractions. During this process, adapting to the immediate dentures can take longer because of the extractions and it is likely you will have sore spots as your gums heal and change shape. After three to six months, your immediate dentures will need to be relined to properly fit your healed gums.
Dentures can help patients in a number of ways, including:
Mastication – your ability to chew is greatly improved by replacing edentulous areas with new denture teeth.
Aesthetics – the presence of teeth provides a natural facial appearance and wearing a denture to replace missing teeth provides support for the lips and cheeks and corrects the collapsed appearance that occurs after losing teeth.
Phonetics – replacing missing teeth, especially the anteriors (the front ones), improves pronunciation of certain words.
Self-Esteem – you’ll feel much better about yourself when you can smile with confidence.
